When working with architects and designers, my main goal is to highlight the design. Most of the time, this means capturing an overall image showing the layout and functionality of the space. This can get a little repetitive, but these type of images work well for my client’s marketing materials. However, I am always on the look out for that tight abstract image that really shows off the materials.
Recently, I photographed a project for JKR Partners Architects, their new office, and found a perfect abstract for them to use. While scouting, I happened to step within the mailroom, which was not an over the top area. When I turned around to leave, I saw the image above, a very tight composition that highlighted just finishes. I knew this would compliment the overall images well and help compliment the story. After showing them how it could frame, we agreed to capture this image.
The funny thing is, that even though they had been working in this office for two months, no one considered this vantage for a photograph. It is one of their favorite from the shoot.
